My name is Dan Smith and I am a fat sailor. It’s an embarrassing situation. The Navy requires us to be within a certain set of standards physically, and I have been on the border, or over them, for years. I need that to stop, and honestly I need it to stop soon. I’ve had many wake up calls, many close calls, and yet only now am I starting to see the true turnaround I need.

It’s not just for the Navy. I have a daughter with cystic fibrosis and exercise is vital for her well-being. And of course, I don’t want my son to grow up like me, struggling all the time with his weight like I do.

This blog is to show you how I’m going to do this…how I’m going to beat back the sickness that I have inside of me…my intense desire to eat everything I can find and my contrasting lack of desire to workout. I have to beat this thing, and I could use your help. Please feel free to comment at any time on the Fat Sailor Blog and help me beat this thing!

I have no doubt that if you put the same dedication towards this as you do serving your fellow Sailor’s, you will succeed. From the day I met you, I knew that you have always put others first… I wish you the best of luck.
